It starts before there is a budget at all — how to get to a ballpark you can say out loud without regretting it, and what a rupee-per-square-foot number does and doesn’t tell you. Then where the money goes: the categories a project splits into, and the share each one usually takes.
The middle of the course is documents. An estimate, a quotation and a BOQ are three different things, and asking for the wrong one is why designers end up with prices they cannot compare. You write each of them, then read a quotation the way it deserves to be read — line by line, unit by unit, looking for what has quietly been left out.
The last stretch is running the money. Hidden costs to catch before you sign, a payment schedule tied to milestones rather than dates, stage gates so nothing gets skipped, and what to do when the estimate lands higher than the budget and something has to give.
